Meet the homegrown sports stars who kicked off their careers in Mansfield

Rebecca Adlington OBE

As Britain’s most decorated female swimmer, Rebecca Adlington needs no introduction. She became a household name after winning double gold at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, breaking a world record in the process. Becky trained at the former Sherwood Baths – now renamed the Rebecca Adlington Swimming Centre – right here in Mansfield.

Charlotte Henshaw MBE

Mansfield native and world paracanoe champion Charlotte Henshaw’s a bona fide legend around town. As well as winning two gold medals at the Paris 2024 Summer Paralympic Games, she’s also been crowned world champion in the Women's Paracanoe KL2 category for more than six years in a row. At age 12, Charlotte began her swimming training with the Nova Centurion Swimming Club at the Mansfield’s Water Meadows complex.

Ross Lamb

We’re not just famous for producing swimming stars, but cyclists too. Formerly a member of the Mansfield Road Club, Ross Lamb cut his teeth on our local circuit before riding in the prestigious Tour of Britain cycle race in 2022.
